Serving to revitalize the Poble Nou neighborhood of Barcelona, Spain, the renovation proposal for the Ca L’Alier industrial complex will provide an extension of the public space and act directly as n extension of the public realm by establishing a two story exterior plaza with an interior “bar” of the existing building serving as the housing for a large children’s museum and activity center.
The primary motivation of the design was to provide a method of preservation of the remaining historical complex. this was accomplished through an addition of independently supported mezzanine and roof structure for the plaza, while parts of the existing walls come to rest on display in large fountains throughout the exterior.
